Dr. Focus Mawe
Medical Doctor | Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellow
Dr. Focus Mawe is a Tanzanian medical doctor with a clinical interest in wound care, burn management, and reconstructive surgery. He is undertaking COSECSA Fellowship-level training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Muhimbili National Hospital, building on his experience in general practice, surgical care, and healthcare leadership.
Wound care is an important part of Dr. Mawe’s clinical background. His experience includes complex wound management, burn care, skin grafting, and flap procedures. These approaches support the treatment of tissue damage, wound coverage, and the preservation or restoration of function. His approach emphasizes careful assessment, appropriate treatment planning, patient education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Dr. Mawe recognizes that wound care involves more than treating a visible injury. Understanding the underlying cause, identifying barriers to healing, and helping patients understand their care are essential parts of effective management. He is committed to compassionate, patient-centred care that supports healing while protecting dignity and quality of life.
He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS) in 2017. He completed COSECSA Membership-level surgical training at Bugando Medical Centre in 2024 and began Fellowship-level training in plastic and reconstructive surgery in 2025. His additional training includes basic burn care in Kampala, Uganda, and an upper- and lower-limb cadaveric flap dissection workshop, alongside surgical skills and trauma courses.
Previously, Dr. Mawe served as Medical Officer in Charge at Nzera District Hospital, overseeing clinical services and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. He also gained general practice experience at Rainbow Pediatric Hospital and Aga Khan Hospital in Mwanza.
Dr. Mawe is registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika and speaks Kiswahili and English.
